Death toll from Sitakunda devastating fire climbs to 49

The death toll from the devastating fire at a private container depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram following an explosion on Saturday night rose to 49.
Nine firemen were among the dead.
Sub-Inspector Nurul Islam Ashek, in-charge of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost, confirmed the information.
More than 200 people including workers, police and firemen were also injured in this connection.
On information, 25 firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 7:30 am on Sunday (June 5).
According to fire service sources, a devastating fire broke out at container reportedly containing chemical at BM Container Depot in Bhatiari area under Sitakunda upazila in the district around 10:30pm on Saturday (June 4).
The fire then spread fast engulfing the adjoining containers following the explosion.
The incident left so many people including workers, on-duty cops and firemen burnt.
