Fire still burning at places even after largely under control

The massive fire broke out at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda in Chattogram is still burning at different places, even after largely coming under control.

The scenes were found at the spot around 8:00 pm on Sunday (June 5).

Akhtaruzzaman, assistant director of the fire service, said, “Some of the containers have yet not be opened and the water could not be reached inside them. That’s why the containers are still burning.”

He said, “The blaze would be brought under control completely if all the containers are well watered.”

Earlier, Sitakunda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahadat Hossain said, “The fire has been brought under control after a 22-hour effort.”

The UNO said, “Fire service men are now opening the containers and checking out them. It is being monitored to examine if there is a resumption of engulfing fire from the containers.”
 
He said, “A total of 25 units of the fire service and one company of the Bangladesh Army have jointly struggled to control the fire completely.”

Mentionable, a massive fire broke out at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda around 9:00 pm on Saturday (June 4). The fire spread around quickly, resulting dozens casualties. At least 49 deaths were reported till the report was filed.
