7.91 lakh sacrificial animals ready in Chattogram

About 7,91,000 sacrificial animals are ready for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha in Chattogram city and upazilas of the district. Among these animals, 5,35,803 are cows, 66,237 buffaloes and 1,89,362 goats and sheep.
Cattle has been reared by individuals, farmers and farms, and sales will begin next week.
According to Chattogram District Livestock Office, there are 8171 registered cow farms in the district. Most of the cows have been reared there, Besides, cows have been reared by individual houses. Some people raise cattle for three months and others for six months in the hope of making extra profit. These animals will be raised in different markets for sale.
Meanwhile, various initiatives have been taken by the concerned to prevent the use of harmful chemicals in cattle fattening. Awareness message is being spread among farmers and pastoralists.
Delwar Hossain, livestock officer in Chattogram, said this time the total target has been set at 8.21 lakh. So, there will be deficit of 29,499 cattle.
