Jamuna water level rising, sparks fears of flood

Water from upstream has pushed up the water level of the Jamuna River, sparking fears of flood in Sirajganj.

The water level of the Jamuna river is flowing at 29cm at Kajipur point and 27cm at Sirajganj point above the danger level.

Due to the rise in the water level of Jamuna river, many houses, educational institutions and crops lands are under threat of erosion. Many houses, educational institutions and crops lands have already gone into the river bed. Farmers in char and low-lying areas are worried about their Aman seedbeds and other crops lands.

Zakir Hossain, Deputy Assistant Engineer of Water Development Board in Sirajganj, said the water level will continue to rise next five days.

Shafikul Islam, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board in Sirajganj, said water level of the Jamuna river is rising but there is no flood warning now.
