5 JMB men get death in Chattogram

A tribunal in Chattogram has sentenced death to five members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in a case filed over the blasts at two mosques inside Bangladesh Navy’s Issa Khan base in the port city.

Judge Abdul Halim of the Chattogram Anti-Terrorism Tribunal handed down the verdict in the case on Wednesday (August 17).

The death-row convicts are M Sakhawat Hossain, Abdul Mannan, Ramzan Ali, Bablu Rahman, and Abdul Gaffar.

Of the convicts, Sakhawat remained on the run since the incident.

On December 18, 2015, at least 24 people were injured in two incidents of explosions at two mosques inside the Bangladesh Navy’s Issa Khan Base.

Following this, a case was filed under Anti-Terrorism and Explosives Act on September 3, 2016.
