Water vessel movement remains normal on Daulatdia-Paturia route

The indefinite strike of water transport workers across the country to press home their 10- point demand is underway. However, the water vessel movement remains normal on the Daulatdia-Paturia route.

The matter was noticed after visiting the ghat area from morning to afternoon on Sunday (November 27).

Launch worker Salim said, “Launch movement is normal on the Daulatdia-Paturia route. We have not been given any instructions to stop the launch. So we kept the launch movement normal.”

Manager of Daulatdia Ghat Launch Owners Association Nurul Anwar Milan said, “The workers of Daulatdia-Paturia route are not part of the central committee. That’s why they do not follow any central programme. Therefore, launch movement on this route is normal.”

Mentionable, the indefinite strike of water vessel workers started from midnight on Saturday (November 26), putting thousands of people in trouble. Due to the strike, launch movement remains suspended across the country.

The demands of vessel workers include- The minimum salary of workers should be fixed at Tk 20,000, India-bound workers should be given a landing pass, restrictions on night movement of bulkheads should be relaxed, the policy of transportation of goods from the ports should be fully implemented, construction of shelter in Chattogram Port and lease of Charpara Ghat should be cancelled, the ongoing operation of fuel oil supply from Chattogram port to the pipeline should be stopped, Tk 10 lakh compensation for death at work and accidents should be implemented, contributory Provident Fund and Weamen’s Welfare Fund should be constituted, 100% implementation of the policy of transportation of goods from the ports of Bangladesh should be ensured.
