Police has set up checkposts in different places including on Dhaka-Tangail highway Chandra Trimor on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway to avoid any kind of vandalism in Dhaka.
During visit at 10:30 am on Thursday (December 8) at Chandra Trimore in Gazipur, the gateway to North Bengal, it was seen that police are searching every vehicle and passenger. All vehicles from North Bengal enter Dhaka through this route. About 15 to 20 policemen are interrogating and searching suspected motorcycles, pickups, long-routed buses and trucks.
Policemen are stopping long-routed buses and interrogating passengers and checking bags, sacks and mobile phones. Many passengers and drivers expressed their discomfort. On the other hand, a police checkpost has also been set up in Tongi.
An assistant of SA Paribahan said, “Police checkposts have been seen in Tangail, Mirzapur and Kaliakoir so far. They are questioning us. This is happening because of the BNP rally in Dhaka”.
Azim Hossain, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kaliakor Police Station, said extra security measures have been taken to prevent violence and sabotage activities. Anyone suspected is being interrogated at the checkpost but no one is being harassed.
