Two killed in Lakshmipur road accident

A driver and his helper were killed as a pickup van loaded with bricks fell into a roadside ditch at Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur district on Tuesday (February 7) noon.

The deceased were identified as pickup van driver Nur Nabi, son of Shah Alam; and his helper Siraj, son of Rafikul Islam. Both are the residents of Charmonsa village under Bhabaniganj union in the upazila.

According to police and locals, a brick-laden pickup van fell into a roadside ditch on Ramgati road after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving pickup van driver Nur Nabi dead on the spot and helper Siraj critically injured.

Locals rescued Siraj and took him to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital where Siraj succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, said Dr. AK Azad, emergency medical officer of the hospital.

Confirming the incident, Lakshmipur Police Station’s officer-in-charge (OC) Mosleh Uddin said the pickup van was seized in this connection.
