17 killed as passenger bus falls into ditch in Madaripur

At least 17 people were killed and many others injured as a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Kutubpur area in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district on Sunday (March 19) morning.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Abu Naeem Mohammad Mofazzel Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibchar Highway Police Station, confirmed the news.

According to local sources, a Dhaka-bound bus of Imad Paribahan leaving Khulna lost control on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga expressway in the Kutubpur area of Shibchar upazila and fell into a ditch after breaking the railing. The bus got twisted in it. 

Later, the bodies of 14 people were recovered from inside the bus.

The injured were taken to a local hospital where duty doctor declared another three people dead.
