Domestic cricket will return despite Sri Lanka tour

The domestic cricket will not be stuck any more despite the tour of Sri Lanka. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief executive officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujan said work was underway to bring back domestic cricket. An official announcement may come soon in this regard.

The country’s cricket was suspended indefinitely after March 16 due to coronavirus pandemic. The Walton Dhaka Premier League could not move on after the end of first round of the tournament. Since six months have passed, but no announcement has yet been made by the country’s cricket governing body.

On September 12, BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon announced to launch domestic cricket. But the BCB’s tournament committee has not yet received directions on the return of domestic cricket. As a result, there is ambiguity about domestic competitions like international cricket.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujan on Wednesday (September 23) said that they are moving ahead with plans to bring back both international and domestic cricket.

He said, “We have other plans. In that case, we will have to wait for this decision (Sri Lanka tour). We have a plan to start domestic cricket even if we play this series.”

It was learned that the BCB is planning to host a four-team corporate cricket and a three-team (national, A and HP team) tournament like the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL). However, the discussion is still at the verbal stage.
