HSC: Ministry for exams, subjects likely to be reduced

The Education Ministry is in favor of holding HSC exams. According to those concerned, giving certificates to students without exams can put them in trouble in their professional lives. Employers can also make fun of the qualifications of these students. Therefore, the ministry is keen to arrange examinations thinking about their future. The final decision on whether to take the exam is likely to come next week. In this case, the government is thinking of reducing the subject even if the syllabus is not reduced.

Those concerned say there is no chance to reduce the syllabus prescribed for students. Because the syllabus has been completed before the spread of coronavirus. However, it is being considered whether the subject of the examinations can be reduced.

According to ministry sources, now decision can be taken considering two issues. Firstly, evaluating students in light of previous exams. Secondly, evaluating by holding exams. However, there may be some problems in evaluating without exams. Therefore, the ministry is in favor of giving the certificate through examination.

When asked, an official of the ministry said, “Many have proposed to give the certificate after evaluating it through the previous exams.” It cannot be said right now how much the method would be effective. Besides, some subjects can be reduced even if students are assessed through exams. Students can be assessed by holding exams on basic subjects. In this case, it will not take much time. The government has all the preparations for the examination.

Earlier, on Wednesday (September 30) in a virtual meeting with education journalists, Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said, “The details of when and how the eamination can be held will be announced on Monday-Tuesday next week. However, students will be given four weeks for preparations. If anyone cannot appear in examination for any reason, special arrangements will be made for him/her.”
