UGC says ‘no’ over student admission before publishing results

The University Grant Commission (UGC) has requested private universities not to start student admission process before publishing results of higher secondary and equivalent examinations.

A letter signed by Dr Md Fakhrul Islam, director of UGC (private university division), was sent to Vice-Chancellors (VCs) and Registrars of the country’s private universities on Wednesday (November 11).

It said the results of this year’s high school or equivalent examinations have not been released yet. The UGC anxiously is observing that a significant number of private universities have already started admitting students before publishing results of HSC or equivalent examinations.

As per rules, each stage of SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations must have a minimum second class or GPA 2.50 or equivalent grade. However, if the result of one of the examinations is a minimum GPA of 2.00, then the total GPA of both the exams must be at least 6.00.

According to that, there is no scope of admitting students to the university before the results of the Higher Secondary or equivalent examinations of 2020 are released.
