Educo Bangladesh supporting flood affected 4,100 families

The Global humanitarian development organization Educo Bangladesh has provided assistance to vulnerable and severely affected 4,100 extreme poor families in flood affected areas of Sirajgonj and Shariatpur districts through its ‘Emergency
Response to the flood affected people in Bangladesh’ project.

The assistance has been offered to the most vulnerable people in Kazipur & Sirajganj Sadar sub-district under Sirajgonj District and Zanjira & Shariatpur Sadar sub-district under Shariatpur district.

This response activity has been implemented by Educo Bangladesh’s partners National Development Program (NDP) in Sirajgonj and Shariatpur Development Society (SDS) in Shariatpur Khulna.

The assistance included food aid and hygiene support. Each families received food assistance packages for the upcoming 15 days (15 kg rice, 3 kg potato, 2 kg pulses, 1 liter cooking oil (vitamin A & D fortified), 1kg Iodized salt, 1kg sugar) and hygiene support (bathing soap -125 gm, 1kg detergent powder, sanitary napkin-2 packs, mask- 20 pieces).

Additionally, these families received water purification support (Halogen-15 gm, 20 pieces per family), which is essential to avoid waterborne diseases in such situation.

Abdul Hamid, Country Director of Educo Bangladesh said, “Immediate assistance during a flood of this scale was essential. Considering the COVID-19 situation, through a quick assessment, we tried to support flood displaced and stuck families and delivered the food packages to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries. Through these 4,100 families, we reached about 20,000 adults and nearly 10,000 children in total’.

Over the years, Educo, Bangladesh has been working to reduce the vulnerability of the most underprivileged people of the society through its humanitarian assistances. In 2020, as of now, Educo, Bangladesh has supported around 100,000 COVID-19, Amphan affected population including around 60,000 children with cash/food and hygiene kit.

In future, Educo Bangladesh will also keep up its effort to stand beside the most vulnerable communities in any humanitarian crisis and disasters.
