Closure of edu institutions likely to be extended again

The government is likely to extend again the closure of all the educational institutions across the country as the coronavirus situation is yet to come under control.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain disclosed the information on Saturday (January 9).

Zakir Hossain said, “The closure of all the educational institutions across the country may be extended as the coronavirus situation has not improved yet. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will take a final decision on the issue.”

“Our online education activities will continue despite the extension to closure of all educational institutions,” the state minister for primary and mass education said.

Professor Dr Syed Md Golam Faruk, director general of Secondary and Higher Education Directorate, said, “A situation has not been created yet to reopen educational institutions due to coronavirus. So, considering the situation, closure of the educational institutions may be extended again after January 16.”

The government first ordered all the schools, colleges and universities across the country to shut down on March 17, after the first cases of Covid-19 in Bangladesh were reported on March 8.

Since then, the shutdown has been extended several times, with the latest one issued on December 18 last year.
