Teachers, Edu’ officials can’t leave workplace

A nation-wide ‘all-out lockdown’ is set to be enforced from April 14 for next eight days. All kinds of government and non-government institutions will remain closed as the government declared these eight days as general holidays.

However, the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has said that no teacher and official will be able to leave the workplace during the lockdown.

According to DPE sources, just as people are leaving the capital due to the lockdown, many education officials are also taking ‘station leave’ on the occasion of the eight-day general holiday. However, no officer can leave their workplace as per the instructions of the department.

DPE Director Manish Chakma confirmed the matter on Monday (April 12).

He said, “Teacher recruitment is upazila based. Their schools have been closed for a long time. They are in the area or at work. However, I have heard that some Upazila Education Officers are leaving their workplaces. If any officer leaves the workplace without informing the concerned office, action will be taken against them.”
