Dhaka University (DU) has reopened its residential halls to students today, Tuesday (October 5).

Resident teachers and university staff were seen to receive their students after the residential halls reopened at 8 am.

Undergraduate final-year students and Masters’ students were seen to enter into the halls from 8am given that they have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Student IDs and proof of at least one dose of vaccine will be strictly monitored by the authorities and only regular residential students will be accommodated in the dormitories, according to the previous decision taken by the Provost Standing Committee and Academic Council at a Syndicate meeting.

DU VC Professor Aktheruzzaman is scheduled to visit Bijoy Ekattor Hall at 10 am and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall at 10:30 am.

The authorities earlier decided to impose a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on students after reopening halls.

The SOP includes abiding by health guidelines, wearing masks, and maintaining hygiene and social distancing.

Banners and festoons will also be visible in the residential halls and academic buildings to raise awareness.

According to the decision, the final-year and undergraduate students will have to take their exams and attend classes after halls reopen while first, second and third year students will be allowed into the halls from November.
