24 students from eight halls of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) so far.

Prof Mizanur Rahman, director of Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), confirmed the information on Sunday (January 16).

He said that the authorities received information about some students being infected with the virus since the outbreak increases. They were also informed that each hall has students infected with the virus. The rate of the infection increased in the last two days.

Mizanur said, “We are making arrangements to send the infected students home because there is no option for them to stay isolated here.”

Earlier, the administration issued a notification on last Wednesday (January 12) about conducting online classes from Saturday (January 15) due to the rapid rise in Covid-19 cases.
