SSC won’t be held in July

The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations will not be held in July as the flood situation has yet not improved at all places in the country. However, the exams will start in August.

The decision was taken in a meeting of Inter-Education Board on Sunday (July 3) noon.

Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar, chairman of secondary and higher secondary education board, Dhaka, confirmed the matter.

He said, “It’s not possible to hold SSC exams in July. Because, we have reviewed the situation today and found that more than half of the centers in Sylhet are now being used as shelters. It will take time to reform them and make them suitable for examination. Therefore, it will not be possible to hold the exams in July. The exams will start in August.”

Asked when the exams could start in August, he said, “We will discuss the matter after Eid. After that we will be able to announce the new date of the exams.”

When asked about HSC, he said, “As the HSC exam is related to the SSC exam, this exam will also be deferred.”

Mentionable, SSC and equivalent examinations were supposed to start on June 19. However, due to the deteriorating flood situation in several parts of the country including Sylhet, the SSC exams were postponed on June 17.
