More caution should be exercised in appointing questioners and moderators, said Education Minister Dipu Moni regarding the communally provocative questions in the Bengali First Paper of the Higher Secondary School (HSC).

She said this to reporters at the end of the ‘71 Genocide recognition by the United Nations’ discussion held at the Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium at the National Museum on Wednesday (November 9).

The minister said, we have to be more careful in assigning the responsibility of questioners and moderators. All boards need to be more vigilant. We need to do better in our system.

Dipu Moni said we have already identified the controversy that has arisen over the Bengali subject question of this year’s HSC. An inquiry committee has been formed in this regard. Who has set the question, who has moderated the question.

The minister said, our investigation is going on. We must see that. Because it is not negligent it is intentional. We are investigating the matter. Neither can be waived if it is negligent or willful. We will take action accordingly.

In order to prevent such a thing from happening in the future, the minister said, the way our whole process of questioning is set now is that one person sets the question; Another moderated. After that, no one else has a chance to see it until it reaches the hands of the examinees.

She said, our questioners and question moderators are given various training. Guidelines are provided. Even then, if someone does it, it is grossly negligent or willful.

The minister said that action will be taken subject to the arrival of the investigation report. We will decide what kind of action will be taken against them. It will depend. But action must be taken.
