Today is Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar. The day of Ashura is marked by Muslims as a whole, but for Shia Muslims it is a major religious commemoration of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM).

The day is being observed with due religious fervour and solemnity. On Ashura, mourners offer prayers at mosques and take out processions grieving the heartless killings of Hussain and his family and supporters by the soldiers of Yazid in the year 61 AH (680 AD) at Karbala in modern-day Iraq.

Some Shia men seek to emulate the suffering of Hussain by flagellating themselves with chains or cutting their foreheads until blood streams from their bodies. Shia men and women dressed in black also parade through the streets slapping their chests and chanting.

Meanwhile, noted Bangladeshi poet, lyricist and composer Mahbubul A Khalid has penned a song that commemorates the martyrdom of Hazarat Imam Hussain (RA) and his family at Karbala. Late composer Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul tuned the song titled 'Hay Hussain (Muharramer Dosh Tarikhe)'. Two young singers Kishore and Rafsan rendered their voices on the song.
The song has been published on Mahbubul A Khalid’s musical website ‘khalidsangeet.com’. Beside, music videos have also been released on the composer's YouTube channel 'Khalid Sangeet'.

About the song, lyricist Mahbubul A Khalid said, Hazrat Imam Husain (RA) never bowed down to falsehood, iniquity and injustice. He did not fear the tortures of Yazid and risked his life and his family to establish truth and justice. His self-sacrifice for upholding the noble ideals of Islam has become a great example in history. The tragic events of Karbala and the eternal message of Holy Ashura will inspire all to speak out against injustice and oppression and to walk in the path of truth and beauty. This truth has been highlighted in the song 'Hay Hussain (Muharramer Dosh Tarikhe)'. Hope listeners will feel the sufferings of Hazrat Imam Husain (RA) and the tragic event of Karbala will touch them.

Mentionable, poet, lyricist and composer Mahbubul A Khalid has penned and tuned a vast number of songs including various days or observance, popular and renowned personalities, social awareness etc. His songs portray the major festivals of all religions.
