Mahbubul A Khalid’s song advocates for girl child

The National Day for Girl Child is being observed today (September 30) across the country. The day is observed to prevent discrimination against girls, to ensure their rights and to prevent various forms of abuse.

This year, the theme for the National Day for Girl Child is 'We all raise voice, the world will be equal'. The day has been observed nationally since 2000 with the approval of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh. However, October 11 is observed around the world as International Girl Child Day.

The conscious people are for eliminating discrimination against girls. To ensure equal opportunities for girl children, noted poet, lyricist and composer Mahbubul A Khalid has penned a song that calls upon all to prevent the discrimination. Late composer Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul has tuned the song titled ‘Konya Bole Koro Na Hela' (Don't Neglect Your Daughter). Popular young singer Nowshin Tabassum Saran has rendered her voice to the song.

A music video of the song has been released on Tuesday on the lyricist's YouTube channel 'Khalid Sangeet'. Beside the song has been published on Mahbubul A Khalid’s musical website ‘khalidsangeet.com’.

About the song, lyricist Mahbubul A Khalid said, girls are subjected to gender discrimination even in the 21st century. In many cases, the girl child is deprived of the privileges that are given to the male child. This is very unfair. The daughter is in no way inferior to the son. If she is given equal opportunities, she can also make a groundbreaking contribution. Moreover, daughters are the bearers and nourisher of the nation. One day she will become a mother. So none should discriminate between son and daughter. The song calls upon all to ensure equal opportunities for both. I hope it will be acceptable to everyone and convey the message.
