The International Girl Child Day is being observed today (October 11) across the world. The day is observed to support more opportunity for girls and increase awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and forced child marriage.

This year the theme of the International Girl Child Day is 'My voice, our equal future'. Meanwhile, Bangladesh observed the National Day for Girl Child on September 30 with the theme 'We all raise voice, the world will be equal'.

The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

Meanwhile, noted Bangladeshi poet, lyricist and composer Mahbubul A Khalid has penned a song that calls upon all to prevent discrimination against girl child and ensure their rights. Late composer Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul has tuned the song titled ‘Konya Bole Koro Na Hela' (Don't Neglect Your Daughter). Popular young singer Nowshin Tabassum Saran has rendered her voice to the song.

A music video of the song has recently been released on the lyricist's YouTube channel 'Khalid Sangeet'. Beside the song has been published on Mahbubul A Khalid’s musical website ‘khalidsangeet.com’.

About the song, lyricist Mahbubul A Khalid said, we are observing the International Girl Child Day in a situation when physical violence against women and girl child have increased in the country. Even today, girls are subjected to gender discrimination. In many cases, the girl child is deprived of the privileges that are given to the male child. However, all should understand that the daughter is no way inferior to the son. If the girl children are given equal opportunities, they can also make huge contributions to humankind and society. The song calls upon all to ensure equal opportunities for both. I hope it will make all aware about the fact.

Mentionable, poet, lyricist and composer Mahbubul A Khalid has penned and tuned a vast number of songs including various days or observance, popular and renowned personalities, social awareness etc. His recent song on Covid-19 pandemic titled 'Corona Ke Voy Koro Na' (Don't get panicked of Coronavirus) has been widely appreciated and created awareness on the deadly virus.
