First namaj-e-janaza of ATM Shamsuzzaman held

The first of namaj-e-janaza of Ekushey Padak and National Film Award winning actor ATM Shamsuzzaman was held at Pir Saheb Bari Jame Masjid of Narinda after Johr prayers.

He will be buried after Asr prayers at Jurain graveyard following the second namaz-e-janaza.

The popular actor breathed his last at his Sutrapur residence in the capital around 9:00 am on Saturday (February 20).

Shamsuzzaman began his career in film as an assistant film director in ‘Bishkonya’ directed by Udayan Chowdhury. He wrote his first manuscript and story for the film ‘Jolchhobi’ which was directed by Narayan Ghosh Mita.

He wrote over a hundred scripts and stories throughout his life. He played a major role in a movie in 1965. The actor came into discussion for his role in Amjad Hossain’s ‘Noyonmoni’.

The veteran actor was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2015 for his contribution to the art. He won the Bangladesh National Film Awards five times for his roles in: “Dayee Ke?” (1987), “Madam Fuli” (1999), “Churiwala” (2001), “Mon Bosena Porar Table E” (2009), and “Chorabali” (2012).
