Decision on cancelling PEC this week

Proposals on cancelling Primary Education Completion (PEC) and its equivalent Ebtedayee examination have been sent to the Prime Minister. The decision in this regard will be taken subject to PM’s approval.

However, any instructions in this regard has yet not come to the ministry, said Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, public relations officer at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

He said, “Considering the current overall situation, it is not possible to hold examination at the moment. Proposals have been made by the ministry along with the Prime Minister in this regard. If she approves, it will be officially announced. However, no instructions have been issued yet.”

Meanwhile, a source of the ministry said that the Prime Minister has approved the cancellation of PEC and Ebtedayee examinations this year. So, the examinations are not being held this year. The matter may be officially announced this week. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md. Zakir Hossain will officially announce it to media. A press conference may be held this week.

According to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, after the closure of the educational institution for the last one and a half years due to the coronavirus situation, class teaching activities have already been started. However, even though the class activities started, it was not possible to complete the syllabus of the students. A short syllabus has been taught for the last three months. Fifth grade students are attending classes on three subjects every day.

Although the PEC and Ebtedayee examinations start in November every year, no such preparations have been made so far this year. Therefore, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education sent a proposal to the Prime Minister to cancel the final examination this year. The proposal was sent to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) last Thursday.
