UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said that the coronavirus causes a big disaster in the education system in history. The closure of schools in more than 160 countries has affected more than 100 crore students.
He also warned over a generational catastrophe following the largest disruption of education in history due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He made the warning at a video conferencing programme on Tuesday.
UN Secretary General said getting students back to the classroom safely is now a ‘top priority’. At least 4 crore children have missed out of education in their critical pre-school year worldwide due to lockdown.
He said more than 25 crore children already out of school before the pandemic and only a quarter of secondary school students in developing countries were leaving the education system with basic skills.
