Two female judges of the Afghanistan Supreme Court have been shot to death in Kabul, the capital city of the country.
The incident took place on Sunday (January 17) morning, according to AFP.
Violence in Afghanistan has escalated over the past few months, despite peace talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government. Attacks on top politicians and officials have increased, especially in the capital city Kabul.
Afghan Supreme Court spokesman Ahmad Fahim Qaweem said the gun attack took place when the judges were driving to their office in a court vehicle.
“Unfortunately, we have lost two women judges in today’s attack. Their driver is wounded,” he said.
Kabul police confirmed the attack.
Earlier in 2017, a suicide attack took place on the Supreme Court premises in Afghanistan, leaving at least 20 people killed and 41 injured.
