Anti-military protests on Myanmar`s highways

Anti-military protesters have taken positions in the important cities of Myanmar after a fearful night.

It was the largest protest rally in the country in the last decade, Reuters reported on Sunday (February 14).

On February 1, the military overthrew the elected government of Myanmar and seized power. Ruling party leader Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested. Protests erupted a few days after the coup, demanding the release of Suu Kyi and the end of military rule. Several protesters were injured in clashes with police on Thursday. The army banned more than five people from gathering to prevent protests.

Engineering students marched through downtown Yangon, the biggest city, wearing white and carrying placards demanding the release of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi. In other parts of the city, protesters chanted "Stop kidnapping at night."
