`Barnomala Bangla Corner` added to Michigan Public Library

'Barnomala Bangla Corner' has been added to a section of the Hamtramck City Public Library in the US state of Michigan.

It was inaugurated on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on February 21. Mayor of Hamtramac City Karen Majewski was present as chief guest while Director of Hamtramck Public Library Tamara Sochacka, two Bengali councillors of the city Mohammad Kamrul Hasan and Naeem Chowdhury as special guests at the programme. Mridul Kanti Sarkar conducted the programme.

It is learned that the journey of 'Barnomala Bangla Corner' officially started at 12 noon on the same day. "Today is the real day," said Chief Guest Mayor Karen Majewski. The reason for discussing this issue is that on this day, the whole world, including Bangladesh, is celebrating their own language day, as well as in the state of Michigan, Hamtramack City. The Hamtramac City Administration attaches great importance to this issue. The language in which our ancestors spoke, grew up and the language in which we express our thoughts. I don't know how many of us have an idea about this Hamtramack City. I can say without a doubt that this city is a meeting place for people of many races and languages. A large number of Bengali speaking people are living here. I welcome them. He added that Hamtramack Public Library authorities have been serving people of many languages for centuries. It’s an important addition to the City’s public.

Tamara Sochacka, director of Hamtramack Public Library, said the public library was established for immigrants. Most of our books here are in English but there are also books in other languages. Many thanks and gratitude to Dr. Debashish Mridha and Chinu Mridha on behalf of me and my Library Board. Many Bengali books to donate to our library. Dr. Debashish Mridha and Chinu Mridha, the founders of Barnomala Bangla Corner, said, “We are very happy to add Bangla books to this public library. I am grateful and thankful to the City Mayor, Library Director and two City Councilmen for giving me the opportunity to add Bangla books to the library. We think it will be history for our Bengali speaking people in exile. He said that in future he will provide all the audio, video clips and other related books of Bengali culture.

City Councillors Mohammad Kamrul Hasan and Naeem Chowdhury spoke on the importance of history, tradition and culture of Bengali language.
