Myanmar fires UN ambassador

The military government in Myanmar has fired UN ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun.

The step was taken as he criticized the military government and called for tough action by the international community, including the United Nations. The country’s state television reported on Saturday (February 27), Al Jazeera reports.

Kyaw Moe Tun had told the UN General Assembly he was speaking on behalf of Aung San Suu Kyi’s government

“We need further strongest possible action from the international community to immediately end the military coup,” he said on Friday.

The junta government in Myanmar dismissed him, saying he had “betrayed the country and spoken for an unofficial organisation which doesn’t represent the country and had abused the power and responsibilities of an ambassador”.
