New variant of coronavirus spreading very fast in India

The new variant of the coronavirus is spreading much faster than the original Indian version. British officials could declare it a ‘variant of concern’, according to BBC and Reuters.

Scientists named the variant found in India B.1.617.2. Its original form is B.1.617. It was first identified in October last year. Public Health England, however, identified three forms of it. There was little evolution in each of the variant.

citing sources BBC reports that B.1.617.2 is as contagious as the “Kent” variant found in the UK. However, no evidence has been found that this variant is currently resistant to the coronavirus vaccine.
