Govt to vaccinate crore people every week: Foreign Minister

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen has said that the government now wants to make the vaccine main tool to control the coronavirus pandemic. We have adequate jabs of vaccines in stock. Even the supply chain is also good. The government plans to vaccinate one crore people every week from August. Then, in the next two months, half of the country’s people of the country will get vaccinated.

The Minister said this at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at the handover ceremony of 7,81,320 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in from Japan on Saturday (July 31) afternoon.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque, Senior Secretary to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry Lokman Hossain Mia, Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Japan Ambassador in Bangladesh Naoki Ito among others were present at the moment.

Foreign Minister said, “Japan is our tested friend. The country has been cooperating with us in various fields since the independence. I recently had a talk with the country’s foreign minister. He assured Bangladesh of necessary assistance in tackling the coronavirus epidemic.”

He added, “Our health minister and the secretary had also said that we would start vaccinating at the village level from August 7. One crore people will be vaccinated every week. It is a matter of concern how many countries in the world have the precedent of bringing so many people under vaccination together.”
