Four injured in lightning strike near White House

A lightning strike hit across the street from the White House, leaving four people critically injured.

Vito Maggiolo, a spokesperson for DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, said this at a news conference on Thursday evening.

The lightning strike hit Lafayette Park which sits directly across the street from the White House, he said.

“All four were suffering critical, life-threatening injuries,” when help arrived, said Maggiolo.

The victims were riding out the storm under a tree, according to a law enforcement source.
