1,446 Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers to be deployed in Mali

Risingbd Desk, DHAKA, Apr 1: Contingents of Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy to be deployed in the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Operations in Mali, a landlocked country in West Africa, for the first time.
A total of 1,446 members of the Army and the Navy including an infantry unit, two signal units, an engineer unit, a navy unit and a riverine unit will be deployed in the African state.
A 112-member team of UN peacekeepers, led by Col. M Jahangir Harun AFWC, PSC, left Dhaka for Mali on Tuesday.
Remaining members will leave for Mali in phases.
Prior to their departure, Munajat was offered at the Hazrat Shahajalal International Airport for success of the mission.
