Sector commander CR Dutta no more

Commander of the Sector Four of the Liberation War Major General (retd) Chitta Ranjan Dutta (Bir Uttam), better known as Bir Uttam CR Dutta, has passed away.

He died of old age complications at a hospital in Florida of USA at 9:30am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment there.

Advocate Rana Das Gupta, general secretary of Bangladesh Hindu-Buddha-Christian Oikya Parishad, confirmed the news.

CR Dutta was born on January 1, 1927 in Shillong, Assam and his ancestral home is in erstwhile Sylhet, presently in Chunarughat Upazila of Habiganj District in Sylhet.

He studied up to second class in Laban Government High School, Shillong. His father was a police officer posted in Shillong, the then capital of Assam in British India.

CR Dutta started his schooling in Laban Government High School in Shillong later, his father retired from the job and moved to Habiganj.

In 1951, Dutta joined the Pakistan Army.

He was awarded with "Bir Uttam" for his special contribution in the war of liberation.
