N’ganj mosque blast: 8 officials of Titas arrested

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested eight officials and employees of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd in connection with the explosion in Baitus Salat mosque at Pashchim Tall area at Fatullah in Narayanganj.

CID arrested them on Saturday (September 19) morning.

CID's Senior Assistant Superintendent Jisan Ul Haque told risingbd that: “Acting on a tiff-off, they have been arrested after carrying out drives at different places of Narayanganj this morning.”

The arrested eight officials and employees are: managing engineer Md Sirajul Islam, deputy managing engineer Mahbudur Rahman Rabbi, assistant engineer SM Hasan Shahriar, assistant engineer Manik Miah, senior supervisor Md Munibur Rahman Chowdhury, senior development worker Md Ayub Ali, chief assistant Hanif Miah and assistant Ismail Pradhan.

Earlier on September 7, Titas authority temporarily suspended its eight officials and employees for their involvement in alleged negligence over the explosion in a mosque at Fatullah in Narayanganj.

Titas authority also issued show-cause notices against them.

The blast incident occurred around 8:45pm on Friday (September 4) at Pashchim Talla Baitus Salam Mosque in Pashchim Talla area under Narayanganj sadar upazila, leaving more than 40 devotees burnt. Among the burn victims, 37 were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital. Of the 37 burn victims, 32 died so far, four are undergoing treatment at the hospital and one burn victim returned home after recovery.
