Verdict of arms case against Shahed on Sept 28

A Dhaka tribunal has fixed September 28 for delivering the verdict of an arms case filed against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed alias Shahed Karim.

Judge KM Imrul Kayesh of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court set the date after concluding the argument hearing of both prosecution and defence in the case on Sunday (Sept 20).

Public Prosecutor Md Abdullah Abu represented the state while lawyers Nazmul Hossain, Moniruzzaman and others placed arguments on behalf of Shahed at the hearing.

Earlier on September 17, the prosecution completed arguments and sought the highest punishment for Shahed in connection with the arms case.

Earlier, the tribunal recorded statements of 11 prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case.

The same tribunal framed charges against Shahed on August 27 in the case.

Shahed was arrested on July 15 from Satkhira when he was trying to leave the country on a boat.

On July 18, a team of DB police found Shahed's private car in front of a house in Sector-11, in the city's Uttara Paschim area. They then seized a pistol with a round of bullets from the car and later a case under the Arms Act was filed against him.

DB Inspector Md Sairul Islam on July 30 submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka, showing 13 people as prosecution witnesses.
