8.5 lakh people of 100 upazilas to get allowance

The government will provide allowance to 8,50,000 elderly people, widows and abused women in 100 upazilas of the country.

They will get an allowance of Tk 500 per month from this September. They will be given two more months (July and August) allowance on special consideration due to coronavirus. The Ministry of Finance has agreed to this.

Director of the Department of Social Services (Social Security) Md Sabbir Imam said 8.5 lakh helpless people of 100 upazilas have been brought under the allowance.

Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed said “The Ministry of Social Welfare has brought 100 upazilas of the country under 100 per cent under social safety net programmes. 8 lakh and 50 thousand elderly people, widows and abused women are coming under this facility in these upazilas. They will get an allowance of Tk 500 per month”.
