HC issues rule over releasing 83 overseas returnees

The High Court (HC) on Monday issued a rule seeking explanation as to why 83 overseas returnees should not be released.

High Court bench comprising Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order on Monday (September 21).

Advocate Salauddin Rigan and Advocate Md Iqbal Hossain moved for the petitioner. Secretary of the home ministry and concerned officials were asked to reply the rule within next two weeks.

Earlier on September 13, lawyer Salah Uddin Regan filed the petition seeking release of 83 Bangladeshis, who returned from Vietnam and Qatar. The overseas returnees were sent to jail after police have shown them arrested under section 54 of the penal code on completion of 14-day quarantine in the capital.
