The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has also issued a warning regarding the purchase of legal mobile phones. It has advised to check the validity before purchaing any mobile set.
The warning was made in a press release sent to the media houses on Monday (September 21).
The press release, signed by BTRC's Spectrum Depratment Director Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Faisal, said a set should be verified through the International Mobile Equipment Identity Number (IMEI) before purchasing it. A receipt of purchase from the seller should also be saved.
The method of verifying the validity of a mobile set is to go to the message option of a mobile phone and entering the KYD space one has to write 15-digit IMEI number and send it to 16002.
The IMEI of the respective handset can be immediately known from the sticker printed packet in the mobile box or by dialing * # 06 #.
Mobile handsets with fake IMEIs will be disconnected from the network through the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR).
It is to be noted that BTRC has warned about this more than once before.
