Master plan to be made for road construction: Finance Minister

Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal said a master plan will be drawn up in a planned manner by stopping construction of roads everywhere across the country.

The Minister to this to the reporters after a virtual meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Procurement on Wednesday (September 23).

When asked about regarding the unusual cost of projects, Mustafa Kamal said, “Where did you got unusual cost of in any project? At the ECNEC meeting yesterday (Tuesday), the Prime Minister made an observation on another issue, which was that you are more interested in constructing roads. But the quality of roads needs to be ensured. She said to look at the quality. You are destroying the crop land of the country by constructing new roads.”

The finance minister said, “Maybe the whole road is going through cropland to save three kilometers. Therefore, a master plan will be prepared across the country to make the Prime Minister’s statement more meaningful. How many roads are there in the country at present, and how many roads will have to be constructed in the next 10, 20 or 50 years will be in this master plan. This has been announced from the committee meeting today.”

When asked, additional secretary of the Cabinet Division Nasima Begum said, “We have been asked to fomr a committee to come up with a master plan. We see how that can be done. The Cabinet Division coordinates the activities of the entire government. So, it is also our responsibility.”
