Bank officer among 2 sentenced in money embezzlement case

A special court in Dhaka has sentenced two persons including a bank officer in a case filed over embezzling Tk 5 lakh from Bank Asia account of Motijheel Model High School and College.

Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka’s special judge court-9 passed the order in absentia of the accused on Sunday (September 27).

The convicts are Mosharraf Hossain, 34, junior officer of principal branch of Bank Asia, and Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, owner of Mrs Z H Chowdhury Traders.

Of them, Mosharraf was sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment. He was also fined Tk 50,000 in default he has to suffer another month in jail. Zakir Hossain was sentenced two years’ rigorous imprisonment. He was also fined Tk 50,000 in default he has serve in a month more in jail.

Mosharraf was known as son of late Ali Hossain of Purba Bigha village of Ramganj in Lakshmipur and Zakir Hossain is son of Abul Kalam Azad of the same village.
