Shahed sentenced life term in firearms case

Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed alias Shahed Karim has been sentenced life term in a firearms case.

Judge KM Imrul Kayesh of the Special Tribunal-1 delivered the verdict on Monday noon.

The court set the date after concluding the argument hearing of both prosecution and defence in the case on September 20.

On September 17, the prosecution completed arguments and sought the highest punishment for Shahed in connection with the firearms case.

The tribunal recorded statements of 11 prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case.

The same tribunal framed charges against Shahed on August 27 in the case.

Shahed was arrested on July 15 from Satkhira when he was trying to leave the country on a boat.

On July 18, a team of DB police found the Shahed's private car in front of a house at Sector-11. They then seized a pistol with a round of bullets from the car and later a case under the Arms Act was filed against him.

DB Inspector Md Sairul Islam on July 30 submitted the chargesheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka, showing 13 people as prosecution witnesses.
