HC asks to pay Tk 20 lakh to Russel

The High Court (HC) directed the owner of Green Line Paribahan to pay Tk 20 lakh as compensation to Russel Sarker, who lost one of his legs in an accident on April 28, 2018.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order on Thursday (October 1).

On March 31, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order that had asked Green Line Paribahan authorities to give Tk50 lakh to Russel.

Earlier on March 12, the High Court directed the authorities of Green Line Paribahan Ltd to compensate road crash victim Russel with Tk 50 lakh.

On April 28, 2018, Russel Sarker, then a rent-a-car driver, lost one of his legs under the wheel of a Green Line Paribahan bus on the slope of Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar area of Jatrabari.

Later, the court issued a rule why Russel won’t be compensated with one crore taka, on May 14, 2018, following a writ petition from former lawmaker Umme Kulsum Smrity.
