Make domestic airports suitable for nightly flights: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has issued authority concerned to take effective steps for adequate light at all domestic airports to enable night flights.

The premier came up with the directives at the meeting of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday (October 20). PM presided over the meeting after joining virtually from her official residence Gonobhabon.

After the ECNEC meeting, Planning Division Secretary Md Asadul Islam briefed media overall information.

He said, “PM has issued directives in view of increasing number of flights on domestic routes. At the meeting, Mahibul Haque, senior secretary at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, said runways and lighting system at domestic airports would be improved.”

Asadul Islam said, “The ECNEC has approved a project worth Tk 566.76 crore for the development of runways at Jashore, Syedpur and Rajshahi airports. The financial condition of country’s people is getting better day by day. The country is also having economic zones. Due to these reasons, flights on domestic routes are increasing. That is why PM asked authorities concerned to develop the airports so that planes can take off and land at night.

He said, “PM has asked to monitor the road development expenditure. The premier also said that utmost importance should be given to food production and food security.”

The ECNEC also approved Tk 301 crore project ‘Land Acquisition and Development for Solid Waste Management in Kadmarasul area of Narayanganj City Corporation’.
