Police form quick response teams to prevent rape

Police have formed quick response teams to prevent rape, women repression and teenage gangs across the country.

The teams have already started activities in many metropolitan areas and district towns under the leadership of a Sub-Inspector (SI) respectively. Quick response teams have been formed in 50 police stations in Dhaka metropolitan area. OC-investigation of concerned police station has been made the head of the team.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam issued directives to deputy commissioners (DCs) concerned to form quick response team respectively.

Mostafizur Rahman, Offficer-in-Charge (OC) of the capital’s Mirpur Police Station, on Wednesday (October 21) afternoon said, “Our team is patrolling different areas and localities. In particular, the team is working immediately on the basis of secret information.”

Shahjahanpur Police Station OC Shahidul Islam said, “Activities of the quick response team will reduce heinous crimes like rape in the area. People are being made aware of this.”

It was learned that a quick response team is working not only in these two police stations but also in each of police station. Apart from this, a team will remain under the Department of Women Support and Investigation (Victim Support Center) in Tejgaon. The team will have six members including two women police members. They will work 24 hours a day to prevent rape and violence against women and provide legal assistance.

DMP spokesperson deputy commissioner (DC) Walid Hossain said, “A quick response team has been formed considering the current situation. Apart from rape, members of the team will prevent the activities of the teenage gangs. That’s why specific guidelines have been provided them. Hopefully, success will come.”

According to police sources, quick response teams have been formed in every division and district including Chittagong, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Khulna and Sylhet. The team will be formed in all police stations of the country in phases. The members of this team will patrol the places where the teenagers hang out and are prone to crime all the time.
