Newborn who ‘came back from dead’ dies

A newborn girl, who was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) but was found alive just before she was being buried at a city graveyard, has died.

The baby girl died at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of DMCH around 11:30pm on Wednesday, said Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.

According to sources, last Friday Shahinur Begum, wife of Yeasin in Gopalganj, got admitted to the hospital with labour pain. Later, she gave birth to a baby girl in early hours. Physicians declared her dead and handed over the body to Yeasin with a box.

Yeasin took the baby to Kalshi graveyard. A grave was dug for the burial. But minutes before the burial, the box jerked, Yeasin said.

Seeing the signs of movement inside the box he opened it and found the baby alive. Yeasin then rushed the baby to DMCH again.
