FM urges WB to grant loan for Bangladesh to buy vaccine

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal urged World Bank (WB) to grant loans for Bangladesh to buy Covid-19 vaccines.
The minister made the call while addressing a virtual meeting between Bangladesh and the World Bank held on October 22 evening as part of the Annual Meetings 2020 of the World Bank and the IMF.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal led the Bangladesh delegation while World Bank Vice President for the South Asia region Hartwig Schafer led the World Bank delegation.
The Finance Minister firstly thanked the lending agency for continuous support to the overall development of Bangladesh. He requested the World Bank to release loan facilities on urgent basis under the COVID-19 Recovery and Response Project to overcome the various COVID-19 related shocks in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Fatima Yasmin said, Bangladesh has showed success in formulating and implementing projects worth $5 billion from IDA and $2 billion from SUF under the IDA-18 which is the highest among the IDA countries.
