EU announces Tk9.6cr aid for Rohingyas

The European Union (EU) has announced a total of Tk9.6-crore aid for Rohingya refugees.

This was confirmed by a press release issued from EU office in Dhaka on Sunday (October 25).

The European Union has announced a total of Tk9.6-crore aid for Rohingyas in 2020 for humanitarian, development cooperation as well as conflict prevention support, according to the release.

EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, came up with the announcement of financial assistance for Rohingyas.

Regarding the issue, Janez Lenarčič said the international community came together to show its support and deliver further assistance to hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees and the communities hosting them.

“We must do all we can so the Rohingya crisis does not become a forgotten tragedy. At this difficult time, the EU continues to stand by the most vulnerable with this emergency humanitarian support,” Janez Lenarčič added.

The EU along with the United States, the United Kingdom and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees co-hosted an international conference for providing emergency humanitarian support for Rohingya refugees on October 22.
