ACC finds illegal wealth worth Tk 53 cr of Golden Monir

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found illegal assets worth Tk 53 crore of Monir Hossain alias Golden Monir, who was arrested along with a huge amount of money, arms, gold and liquor from Merul Badda in the capital.

The information came out in the ongoing preliminary investigation started several days ago. Not only that, in 2012, the ACC had also filed a case alleging illegal acquisition of assets worth crores of Taka. Monir Hossain has been made an accused in that case. The investigation of that is yet not over.

When asked, ACC’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said, “More than one investigations are underway against Monir. The investigation will be completed as soon as possible.”

An ACC official claiming anonymity said, “Movable and immovable assets worth Tk 3 crore 84 lakh 96 thousand 600 of Monir Hossain has been found in the investigation. The legal source of the money seized during the RAB operation, including foreign currency, gold ornaments and vehicles worth Tk 45.17 crore, was not found. In other words, Monir Hossain could not give any evidence in favor of the assets of 49 crore 2 lakh 25 thousand 600 Taka. Besides, the ACC’s investigation found immovable and movable property worth Tk 3.75 crore in name of Monir Hossain’s wife Raushan Akter. Notice will be given soon to file a statement of assets against them.”
 
According to the ACC investigation, Monir Hossain’s wife Raushan Akhter is a housewife. But no legitimate source of her wealth was found. Preliminary investigations have found evidence that she acquired them illegally after 2016.
