Life imprisonment means jail until death: Review verdict Dec 1

The Appellate Division will deliver its verdict on December 1 on a review petition filed against the Appellate Division judgment, saying that life imprisonment means jail sentence for rest of the life of the convict.

A seven-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain fixed the date on Tuesday.

On February 14, 2017 the Supreme Court pronounced that life imprisonment means jail sentence for rest of the life of the convict.

The apex court delivered the short verdict on the appeals of two convicts-- Ataur Mridha and Anwar Hossain-- who were sentenced to death by a lower court in a case filed for killing one Jamal in Savar in 2001.

A four-member Appellate Division bench headed by Justice Sinha commuted their death sentence to life term, but observed it meant imprisonment until natural death.

Later, a review petition was filed against the Appellate Division verdict.
